The Poker Capital of the World. Not Las Vegas — Gardena, California.

This is a vintage souvenir glass piece from The Horseshoe Club, Gardena, California — triangle-shaped pressed glass, circa 1960s. Not to be confused with the Horseshoe Club in Las Vegas. Extremely rare. One available.

Gardena, California called itself the Poker Capital of the World — and it earned the title. Starting in the late 1930s, the city grew to host six poker clubs operating legally under California law, drawing players from across the region. The Horseshoe Club opened in 1947 and operated until 1989 — over forty years as one of Gardena's landmark establishments. The triangle form is distinctive, the logo crisp. A minor manufacturing flaw — what appears to be fine grains of sand embedded in the glass during production — is visible in photographs and typical of the promotional glass of the period. Otherwise excellent.

This is California gambling history of a very specific and little-documented kind — not Nevada, not the Strip, but the quiet poker culture of Southern California that predated and outlasted much of what Las Vegas built around it.

A wonderful piece for a California gaming collector, a poker history enthusiast, or anyone drawn to the overlooked corners of American mid-century leisure culture.
